  • Divide herbaceous perennials.
  • Move tender plants into a greenhouse or conservatory.
  • Harvest apples, pears, grapes & nuts.
  • Prune climbing roses.
  • Plant wallflowers, winter pansies & other Spring bedding plants.
  • Plant your Spring flowering bulbs now.
  • Good time to plant herbaceous perennials.
  • A good month to move & plant trees, shrubs & climbers as well as for hedge planting.
  • Last chance to trim deciduous hedges.
  • Any disease affected leaves, like black spot on roses should be raked up & destroyed- DO NOT COMPOST, as this will only help spread the disease.
  • This is your last chance to scarify, aerate & top dress your lawn.
  • Apply an Autumn lawn feed.
  • Last chance to mow your lawn before winter.
  • Now is the time to remove any tender water plants from your pond. They can be kept in buckets of water in your greenhouse or conservatory.
  • Remove pumps or fountains from your ponds or water features, clean them & store them over winter.
  • This is a good time to clean your water butts, empty them, spray with a jet nozzle or scrub them out. This will get them ready to collect fresh water over the winter months.
  • Drain irrigation systems to prevent them freezing up.
  • Replace any glass in your greenhouse.
  • Get your lawnmower & hedge trimmer serviced whilst they are not in use.
  • Remember to turn your compost heap to speed up composition.
  • Reduce the amount of water you give your houseplants now.
  • Sweet pea’s can now be sown in the greenhouse for next Spring.
  • Insulate your greenhouse.
  • Plant up prepared hyacinths for Christmas or New year.
